DESCRIPTION The AWS Data Center Design Engineering team is looking for a senior manager to join our highly collaborative leadership team, responsible for delivering data center related design services across AWS globally. As the Data Center Design Services Manager, you will lead a team of BIM (Building Information Modeling) managers, rack layout managers, and technical support staff focused on the design of data centre capacity projects, creation and management of template and reference designs, ownership and management of BIM standards and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives. Your key function will be to leverage BIM and data technologies to benefit the entire DC lifecycle through design, construction, operation and decommissioning to enable capacity delivery and provide data to our back-end systems. Your work will involve engaging with the AWS engineering community and our internal customers, including procurement, construction, real estate and planning teams. Since our team self-performs engineering on a significant proportion of our projects, you will have significant influence over data center capacity delivery and your contributions will have immediate impact. This role is open to DUB/SEA/SYD locations Key job responsibilities • Drive and own quality standards for BIM models delivered from your team. • Responsibility for capacity delivery design projects (delivered in BIM) on-time so as to not constrain the business • Set the standard for BIM best practices and drive process improvements across the organization. • Provide technical oversight of template and reference models used for capacity delivery projects including their development in line with our Basis of Design (BoD) process. • Work with internal teams to understand user requirements to set a roadmap for BIM model content to support design delivery efficiency initiatives and other data uses within the business • Conceive, initiate, and lead projects with widespread impact on our project delivery and data management • Drive best practices on the team, deal with ambiguity and competing objectives, and proactively identify and mitigate risks before they become roadblocks; • Engage with the Design Engineering senior leadership team and other stakeholders to influence roadmaps, priorities and processes, working across multiple teams; • Report on status of development, quality, operations, and performance to management; • Write effective narratives and present them concisely and effectively to Directors and VPs; • Hire, mentor and develop a technical team of BIM managers, rack layout managers and technical support staff; BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Cumulative 10+ years of experience in delivering BIM strategies in the construction Industry including implementing change. - Cumulative 10+ years of experience managing staff focused on BIM/AEC design technologies - Detailed knowledge of global BIM standards and best practices - Proven ability to research new design technologies and implement them into a design delivery process. - Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability, or maintainability. - Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to senior leadership. - Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - 5+ years direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers. - Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent fields - Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
