You would work with committed team of front-line responders who support the operations of some of the world’s most powerful data centers. Our Data Center Engineering Operations team maintain and operate our critical infrastructure systems. This position will ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The Data Center Facility Manager is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the entire facility.

As a Facility Manager, you will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot, with the assistance of the site engineering operations team, the mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Mechanical equipment includes CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors.

Key job responsibilities
• Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure. Maintain high availability and performance while ensuring that all work performed within the site is done to high quality without impact to internal/external customers and maintain service level agreements.
• Manage teams of 24x7 engineering team in all facets of their career. Prioritize and assign tasks to data center technicians and operators, manage projects, coach and create documentation. Guide, train and educate staff on best practices related to all service owner issues.
• Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
• Engage in improvement projects, often requiring reaching out to a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
• Coordinates daily with a multitude of third party vendors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs.
• Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls.
• Is the second level escalation points for Data Center facilities related issues/failures.
• Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues. Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
• Manage emergency situations and lead emergency response team. 
• Test quality, performance, safety, and reliability of products, equipment and processes.
• Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull.
• Perform extended site rounds that could include long distances of walking and long periods of time being away from a desk.
• Role may support more than one location/site.
• Lead and manage budgeting and procurement for Data Center’s related goods and services.
• Manage talent acquisition process and people development for DCEO organization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
•Diploma or Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline
•3+ years of experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports
•3+ years of experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem solving
•5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment with extensive knowledge in UPS, Generators, HVAC, Evaporators and other critical infrastructure OR 9+ years of Technical (Military/Trade School) training and/or experience.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills, technical writing or business justifications (white paper experience)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Knowledge/Certification in Energy Management /Water conservation/Green Mark standards
•Knowledge of Data Center capacity planning and reporting.
•Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
•Able to prioritize in complex, fast-paced environment

Data Center Facility Manager 

DESCRIPTION

The AWS DCE ICT (Data Center Engineering, Information and Communications Technology) Team is fast-growing and leading-edge research and development team that is rethinking the design for the critical arteries that connect the various pieces of hardware inside AWS’ data centers and edge sites.

As a member of this team, you will work directly with engineers and managers across the company to develop ICT structured Cabling infrastructure solutions for the physical layer. You will also work with industry suppliers and startups to develop requirements and recommend new technology.

Responsibilities will include:
• Ensure timely delivery of scalable fiber optic & copper plant designs
• Develop an automated solution for how we route and utilize our physical layer
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver designs that meet capacity and network requirements and turn-up timelines
• Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively
• Support New Product Introduction activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time
• Travel 20+% to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS' Data Centers primarily in Singapore and other APAC countries.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years experience in ICT structured cabling design
• 2+ years experience in Data center or Mission Critical Environment
• Working Knowledge of fiber optic component, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Registered Communications Distribution Designer Certificate
• Experience in AutoCAD or other Computer Aided Design Tools
• Past experience in carrying new design concepts from exploration, concept, development, through deployment/construction
• Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality, reliability, or maintainability
• Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and maintain high quality standards
• Ability to prioritize & consistently deliver results in complex, fast-paced environment
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe features, technical designs, and strategy.
• Japanese and English language skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or other Related Field OR 7+ Years of Technical Experience
